Yoder named 2A Runner of the Year

Westview senior Matthew Yoder was named the 2017 2A Runner of the Year by the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches last week.

Yoder, who will run for Indiana University starting next fall, won NECC, sectional, regional and semi-state championships this past fall. In the IHSAA state finals meet at Terre Haute, Yoder placed 12th overall and helped lead the Warriors to a third-place finish in the team standings.

Warrior teammates, senior Richmond  Stoltzfus and freshman Spencer Carpenter, joined Yoder on the 2A All-State first team. Stoltzfus, a Bradley University signee, finished ninth in the state finals race.

Senior Abe Jones, junior Kent Yoder and freshman Remington Carpenter all of Westview were selected to the 2A honorable mention list.

Stoltzfus and Kent Yoder were also tabbed for the Academic All-State squad. Stoltzfus made the first unit, while Yoder received honorable mention status.

Two members of the Westview girls cross country team – seniors Carman Draves and Lydia Rang – made the IATCCC 2017 girls Academic All-State honorable mention list.
