Westview girls soccer sectional postponed for weather

Mother Nature intervened in Saturday’s Class 1A girls soccer sectional finale at Bethany Christian between the host Lady Bruins and Westview.

Lightning and torrential rain caused the match to be stopped with seven minutes left in the first half and the Lady Warriors ahead, 2-0. After approximately an hour delay, tournament officials decided suspend the proceedings and pick them up Monday at 6 p.m.

Jodi Hostetler put in the first goal for Westview with 9:29 elapsed in the tilt. Seconds after entering the match from coach Jamie Martin’s bench, Hostetler headed in a shot off a corner kick.

Just before the rains came, Makayla Yoder emerged from a scrum in front of the Bethany goal and booted a shot past keeper Sarah Hochstetler for a 2-0 Lady Warrior lead.

Westview advanced to the finals with a 3-1 victory over Lakeview Christian in last Thursday’s semifinals.

Hostetler, Grace Miller and Lauryn Riegsecker scored the Lady Warrior goals. Keeper Leanna Miller made six saves.

Bethany Christian blanked Elkhart Christian, 4-0 in their semifinal tilt.
