Westview girls rip Prairie Heights

Westview brought out its long-range attack in subduing NECC and county girls basketball rival Prairie Heights, 69-40 last Friday night in Brushy Prairie.

Coach Randy Yoder’s Lady Warriors canned a season-high, eight three-point shots en route to its first league win and second overall victory. The bombing campaign began in the first quarter, as consecutive triples by Bradi Yoder and Summer Konkle helped erase a 7-0 start by the Lady Panthers.

Two more threes by Konkle and one each by Yoder and Alex Burr in the third period stretched what had been a 35-24 Westview lead into an even more comfortable, 54-32 margin.

“We got contributions from so many players tonight, which was really great to see,” said Lady Warrior chief Randy Yoder, whose club snapped a four-game losing skid with Friday’s decision. “Our three-point shooters are starting to gain more and more confidence and we held our turnovers down, two areas we must continue to get better in as we go forward.”

Four players finished in double figures for Westview, led by Ashya Klopfenstein with 16 points. Konkle would up with 13 markers, Yoder 11 and Gloria Miller 10.

Klopfenstein also topped the Lady Warriors in rebounds with nine. Konkle added seven assists to her ledger.

“This is a step in the right direction,” said Yoder of the win over Prairie Heights.

Alexis German tossed in 20 points to lead the Lady Panthers.
