Westview girls edge Lakeland

Ashya Klopfenstein scored 14 of her game-high 21 points in the second half to help host Westview down NECC and county rival Lakeland, 39-30 last Friday night.

Klopfenstein sank two baskets and two free throws in the third period as the Lady Warriors extended a five-point (18-13) halftime bulge to 11 (28-17). The 6-1 junior tallied Westview’s initial eight points of the final frame to help build the margin to 13 (36-23).

In addition to her scoring, Klopfenstein hauled down eight rebounds and dished out four assists. Alex Burr chipped in eight points and seven boards to the Lady Warrior attack.

Baleigh Hartsough tossed in 20 points to pace Lakeland, which was playing without freshman sparkplug Keirstin Roose, who is out indefinitely due to a knee injury.

Friday’s decision leveled Westview’s overall record at 7-7 and raised its NECC mark to 5-2. Lakeland dipped to 5-8 overall and to 2-5 in the league.
