Westview boys down Lakeland

Westview breezed to a 57-41 NECC boys basketball victory over county rival Lakeland last Friday night in Emma.

The Warriors began to take command of the contest midway through the second quarter on the play of junior center Nick Rensberger. The 6-5 Rensberger tallied the final 10 markers of the frame, stretching what had been a 17-12 advantage to a 27-12 halftime bulge.

Lakeland clawed back to within 10 on several occasions in the second half, the last of which came as a result of two free throws by Cole Harp in the latter stages of the fourth period. Westview went on to net the final six points of the game to secure its fourth conference victory in as many decisions.

Rensberger wound up with 18 points to lead all scorers. He also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Charlie Yoder chipped in 12 points and three assists to the Warrior effort. Josh Hostetler came off the bench to sink 11 markers and Elijah Hales totaled eight points, six boards and four assists.

Harp’s 17 points topped the Lakers, who dipped to 3-1 in the league and to 4-3 overall with the loss. Camron Bontrager pitched in 11 points, Kole Miller six rebounds and Braden Bontrager three assists.

Both Lakeland and Westview will be in action Thursday at DeKalb. The Lakers square off against the host Barons at 11 a.m. and Plymouth at 5:30 p.m. The Warriors battle Plymouth at 12:30 p.m.
