Wellness screenings at Parkview LaGrange Hospital August 17

Parkview LaGrange Hospital’s “Wellness on the Road” series will be offering several screening opportunities at its August 17 event to be held from 7:30-10 a.m. at Parkview LaGrange Hospital, 207 N. Townline Rd. in LaGrange.

Free balance screening

Balance issues are often the reason behind falls, whether the loss of balance is caused by an unseen trip hazard, weakness, a side effect of medication, even an ill-fitting shoe. Stop in for a free 15-minute balance screening with a member of Parkview LaGrange Hospital’s rehab therapy staff and gain some insight on those things that may be effecting your balance and putting you at a greater risk of falling. No appointment is needed.

Free hearing screening

It is estimated that as many as one in three people in the U.S. are affected by hearing difficulties. The causes are varied, from exposure to excessive loud noise to ear infections, trauma or disease or deteriorating hearing due to the normal aging process. Hearing loss has been associated with increased anxiety and depression, and if the loss is coupled with balance issues, the risk of falls increases significantly.

Free hearing screenings will be offered from 7:30-10 a.m. No appointment is needed.

Free diabetes education

If you are pre-diabetic or have recently been diagnosed with diabetes, understanding the illness and its on-going management is essential. Stop in and talk with Parkview LaGrange’s diabetes educator about tips for healthy eating, the role of activity, managing medications and reducing risk of medical complications. Learn about the free diabetes resources that are available at Parkview LaGrange Hospital.

Blood tests

Blood tests offered from 7:30-10 a.m.

Several of the most popular of the low-cost blood tests that have been a hallmark of these events have been grouped into “Wellness Packages.” Each of these packages includes a comprehensive metabolic profile (CMP) and a lipid profile (formerly a CHEM-17). Wellness Packages range in price from $35-$105, depending on which additional tests are included in the package. All of the Wellness Packages require a 10-hour fast prior to testing.

Single tests are also available and include a hemogram (anemia screen), TSH (thyroid), hemoglobin A1C (diabetes screen), PSA (prostate cancer screen), ultrasensitive CRP (screen for early heart disease), and a Vitamin D 25 hydroxy (bone health screen). These tests are individually priced and range from $10-$45 depending on the test.

Payment for lab tests may be by cash or check. Results will be available to those who have a MyChart account within 24 hours. All others will receive the results by mail within two to three weeks. All lab test prices reflect Medicare rates, as required by law.
