Syracuse man robs Dollar General in LaGrange

A Syracuse, Ind., man was arrested after robbing the Dollar General store in LaGrange.

The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department received a call at approximately 8:36 a.m. on November 2 that an armed robbery was in progress at the Dollar General Store on S. Detroit Street.

In a joint investigation involving the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Dept., LaGrange County Communications, LaGrange Police Dept., Wolcottville Police Dept., Rome City Police Dept., and Shipshewana Police Dept., a suspect vehicle was located and stopped just south of Wolcottville. The driver was identified as Joshua Ryan Olejniczak, 19, of Syracuse, Ind. He was taken to the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department and interviewed. He initially denied any involvement in the robbery.

During investigation, officers located clothing that matched what the suspect was wearing during the robbery. A search warrant was applied for and granted to search Olejniczak’s vehicle. The cash stolen from Dollar General along with the knife used to rob the store was recovered from the vehicle.

Olejniczak was interviewed again and confessed to committing the robbery. He was then arrested for armed robbery and incarcerated at the LaGrange County Jail.
