Rep. Zent to serve on key summer study committees

State Rep. Denny Zent (R-Angola) was recently named to three summer study committees which examine assigned topics, gather testimonies and recommend potential legislation.

Zent is assigned to the Interim Study Committee on Public Health, Behavioral Health and Human Services as well as the Interim Study Committee on Government and the Indiana Veterans’ Affairs Commission.

“My career in healthcare will help me tackle important issues facing our state in the Interim Study Committee on Public Health, Behavioral Health and Human Services,” Zent said. “I will work with lawmakers to continue putting the health of Hoosiers first.”

This year, Zent authored a new law helping stroke patients receive necessary treatment, which could prevent permanent and extensive damage to a patient’s brain. EMS providers will now be given access to information about surrounding hospitals so they are able to decide which hospital is closest and best equipped to treat a stroke patient.

Zent also served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force and will continue to use his military experience to help lead discussions on the Indiana Veterans’ Affairs Commission and the Interim Study Committee on Government.

Zent said interim study committee hearings, which typically occur at the statehouse in Indianapolis, can be viewed live online at iga.in.gov. This site also provides committee calendars and meeting agendas. Members of the public are welcome to attend and testify.
