Recording fees to change July 1

On April 21, Governor Eric Holcomb signed SB505 which will change the fees that Recorder’s Offices charge dramatically. Currently every document has an individual fee amount. Starting July 1, 2017 all Mortgages will be$55/per document, UCC filings will be $6/up to two pages; $10 over two pages and all other documents will be $25 per document. There are other minor changes if documents are larger than 8 ½x14.

According to LaGrange County Recorder Jennifer McBride, the change was made to ensure that recording costs for mortgages and other filings were consistent, allowing the costs to be calculated accurately in advance. Fees had been based on a set cost for the first page of a document, plus a per page for each page after that.

The Recorder’s Office asks that all individual and businesses planning to record documents keep these changes in mind. Any document received in their office after June 30, will be charged the new rate.
