NECC Cross Country results

Westview cruised to its third straight NECC boys cross country championship this past Saturday at West Noble.

The Warriors came in with a near-perfect score of 19 points, 33 less than runner-up West Noble (52). Taking a distant third with 110 was Angola.

Each of the seven runners entered in the race by Westview coach Les Hively earned all-conference honors by placing in the top 15. Leading the pack was the senior duo of Matthew Yoder and Richmond Stoltzfus, who finished 1-2 in times of 15:53.32 and 15:59.31, respectively.

Junior Kent Yoder (16:27.91) and freshmen Remington Carpenter (16:32.25) grabbed spots 4-5 for the Warriors. Freshman Spencer Carpenter (16:45.51) placed seventh and sophomore Anthony Schwartz (16:57.01) took eighth. Senior Abe Jones (17:08.99) finished 13th to round out the Westview contingent.

Prairie Heights junior Allan Steele (17:30.15) placed 19th overall, good enough to garner NECC honorable mention status. The Panthers finished ninth on the team list.

Lakeland, led by freshman Lucas Begly (18:05.20) in 31st position, wound up sixth in the team standings.

Three girls from LaGrange County ran their way to All-NECC honors at the league’s annual meet held Saturday in Ligonier.

Freshman Hannah Neff and junior Jewel Helmuth of Westview, along with Lakeland junior April Chrisman earned slots on the NECC first unit with 1op-15 finishes. Neff took seventh in a time of 20:53.37, Helmuth placed eighth in a mark of 21:03.57 and Chrisman was 12th in a clocking of 21:19.80.

Carol Haldeman of Fairfield won the girls race in a time of 19:36.23. Taking second in 19:53.31 was West Noble’s Yarency Murillo.

Four other county runners garnered spots on the honorable mention list with top-25 efforts. That quartet included senior Lydia Rang (19th in 22:05.21), junior Sam Kohlheim (23rd in 22:37.68) and sophomore Lindsay Stoltzfus (24th in 22:54.59) all of Westview; and Lakeland sophomore Kaeden Barker (25th in 22:57.48).

Angola edged West Noble, 53-56 for the NECC girls team championship. Westview (73) was third, Prairie Heights (183) seventh and Lakeland (195) eighth.
