Laker boys win first

Nick Burlingame registered his first win as the head coach of the Lakeland boys basketball program this past Friday, as his Lakers clipped the visiting Fremont Eagles, 60-36 in NECC play.

Lakeland took control of the contest from the opening tip, outscoring Fremont by a margin of 17-5 in the first quarter. A 17-8 spurt in the second period widened the gap to 34-13 by halftime, while a 20-5 surge in the third stanza gave the Lakers a 54-18 advantage.

Freshman Brayden Bontrager poured in 17 points to lead the Lakeland offense. Senior Cole Harp finished with 12 markers and junior Jashaun Poole sank 10.

Also scoring for the Lakers were senior Camron Bontrager (nine), senior Josh Grogg (six), junior Reece Romer (four) and junior Kole Miller (two).

Harp and Camron Bontrager led the victors on the glass with six rebounds apiece. Bontrager also dished out five assists.

The triumph lifted Lakeland to 1-2 overall and to 1-0 in the NECC.
