Lakeland gridders fall in playoffs

Three rushing touchdowns by Marcus Morrow and a stifling defense carried Fort Wayne Concordia to a 32-0 victory over the Lakeland Lakers in the second round of the Class 3A state football playoffs last Friday night at Zollner Stadium.

Morrow found the end zone on jaunts of 10, 18 and 20 yards. The senior halfback finished the game with 183 yards on 21 carries.

Brandon Davis and Keaton Koehlinger each tossed touchdown passes for the Cadets. Davis his Kamari Anderson-Drew on a 23-yard strike in the opening period, while Koehlinger connected with Tysen Chambers on a 31-yard scoring pass as time ran out in the first half.

Meanwhile, the Laker offense could do little against the Concordia defense, mustering a total of 104 yards for the night. The Cadets also forced six Lakeland turnovers.

Adam Kreider gained 45 yards on 24 carries, Lawton Yoder 41 yards on 10 attempts and Nolan Isaacs 30 yards on 10 totes. Kreider finished the season with 1450 yards and Isaacs wound up with 1059 yards.

The loss brought the Laker campaign to a close with a 5-6 record.

Fort Wayne Concordia, the defending 3A state champions, will take a 7-4 record into the sectional 28 finale against cross-city rival Bishop Luers this Friday. The 7-4 Knights advanced to the title tilt with a 40-17 thrashing of Norwell.
