Goshen girls down Lakeland

Goshen defeated Lakeland, 49-40 in varsity girls basketball action Tuesday night in the Maple City.

The visiting Lady Lakers took an 11-10 lead into the second quarter thanks to a three-pointer by Beka Stroop just before the first-period buzzer. The senior forward would finish atop the Lakeland scoresheet with 11 points.

But those would be the last points the Lady Lakers would score for a while as Goshen, behind three buckets and two free throws by 6-0 freshman Brynn Shoup-Hill, netted the first 16 markers of the second stanza to take a 26-11 advantage. Regan Mast chipped in five points to Goshen’s second-period surge.

Freshmen Bailey Hartsough and Keirstin Roose followed Stroop on the LHS scoresheet with 10 and nine points, respectively. Junior Makayla Mast pitched in eight points and sophomore Beth Stroop had two.

Senior Tanner Metcalf led the 0-2 Lady Lakers in rebounds with five. Hartsough added four steals and three assists to her stat line.
