Girls track sectional results

Westview freshman Aleka Ernsberger and Lakeland senior Kloee Fitch each won two events at Tuesday’s IHSAA girls track and field sectional meet held in Angola.

Ernsberger sped to victory in the 400-meter race, finishing in a time of 58.91 seconds. Next best with a mark of 1:00.31 was Central Noble’s Kayla Kunkel.

Later in the meet, the Lady Warrior standout claimed top honors in the 200-meter dash, stopping the clock at 26.79. Lexie Moriarity of East Noble was second in 27.03.

Fitch won her third straight sectional discus crown with a toss of 125-3, nearly 10 feet farther than runner-up and reigning NECC champ Katelyn Ayres of Central Noble (115-9). Fitch then grabbed first place in the sectional shot put for the third time in her four-year career with a heave of 40-9 feet. Lanie Allen of East Noble was second with a distance of 40-0.

Ernsberger and Fitch will vie for regional honors and berths to the 2017 IHSAA state finals this coming Tuesday at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.

The only other LaGrange County girls trackster to earn a regional berth at Angola was Prairie Heights pole vaulter Sydney Rathburn. The Lady Panther junior cleared a height of 8-6 feet to place third in the event. Angola’s Ali Cranston took first with a mark of 10-0.

Two Prairie Heights entrants came up one spot short of automatically qualifying for the regional. Freshman Amanda Dyer finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.69) and the 400-meter relay crew of Dyer, Rathburn, freshman Kyler Hall and freshman Brittney Teller wound up in fourth place (54.59).

Angola scored 110 points to claim the sectional team championship. East Noble was second with 102.
