Garret dumps Lakeland in football play

Garrett scored 21 straight points in the second quarter, propelling the Railroaders to a 34-14 victory over Lakeland in NECC Big School Division football last Friday night at Laker Field.

After spotting Garrett a 7-0 lead, the Lakers went ahead by a point late in the first period on Adam Kreider’s four-yard touchdown scamper and a two-point conversion pass from, A.J. Poe to Nolan Isaacs.

But the edge was short-lived, as Garrett regained the advantage two minutes into the second stanza on a 19-yard scoring jaunt by Joel Mix. That was soon followed by a nine-yard journey to the end zone by Sam Feeney, boosting the Railroader lead to 21-8.

Garrett quarterback Levi Follett connected with Kraig Smith on a 22-yard scoring strike with 3:08 left in the first half to put the visitors up by 20. Kreider sprinted 85 yards to paydirt a few seconds later to narrow the halftime difference to 28-14.

Mix recorded his second touchdown of the night early in the third period on a six-yard run. The Railroader defense held the Lakers scoreless after the intermission to cement their third victory in four outings.

Mix accounted for 199 of Garrett’s 217 rushing yards. Follett was 17-26 through the air for 164 yards.

Kreider wound up with 161 yards on 20 attempts. Poe completed 7-19 passes for 54 yards.

The 1-3 Lakers visit unbeaten Angola this Friday. The Hornets pounded West Noble, 72-21 last week.
