Four legs, a lick and a wag

Hi, friends,

Brrr, do you think spring will ever come? I can’t wait for the pretty spring flowers, green grass, warm sunshine and all those rabbits to run after. I heard my mom say it is very close. I am not sure what close means, but maybe tomorrow. The Buddy’s Buds book deadline is very close; if you have not written your story please do so quickly. Just send it to P.O. Box 95, Howe, IN 46746. I have read many of the stories and I believe it is going to be quite a book! In fact, I get to go to school because the art class is meeting me so they can design the cover of the book. I am not quite sure what all this means, but I know it will be fun meeting all those kids.

You will want to mark your calendar on April 20 from 1-4 p.m. for the Celebration of the Ark Animal Sanctuary. More information to come but I heard through some of my cat friends there that you will be able to find a forever home for a cat pretty easy. You will want to check it out!

I had quite an experience this week, in fact just last night. I was on my way home for the evening with my mom and we were just buzzing along the road when all of a sudden this HUGE brown and white animal with long legs just jumped right out in front of us. I thought “Oh my goodness! Is it going to come right into my lap?”

We were able to make it home okay but when my mom got out of the car and looked she hung her head and said, oh my, oh my, what now? She was pretty upset but I kept trying to tell her that the most important thing was we were okay. A huge truck came and put the car on the trailer and we got to ride in this bumpy thing to the shop where she is hoping to get her car fixed. Please be careful, especially at night because those deer have a way of appearing out of nowhere.

Have you ever thought about fostering a dog? I am not sure what fostering means, but I sure have a better understanding after reading “The Foster Dog” by Diane Morgan:

“I know I don’t look like much. My ears aren’t the longest – But I can hear everything you say. My coat isn’t very shiny, either – But I love to be brushed. I am not a perfect dog, I guess. Sometimes I make mistakes in the house, mostly when I get scared. And I get really frightened when my foster mom goes away. I know what it’s like to be abandoned forever. What if she never, never comes back?

“I get awfully possessive about my food sometimes. I know what it’s like not to have any. And big people with loud hard voices scare me when they try to clip my nails. I’ve been hurt bad. And sometimes kids run and scream, one of them hit me once. And one kicked me.

“I feel better than I used to, but I still get kind of sick sometimes. I don’t know what’s wrong, but sometimes I just like to lie down in the sun and sleep, I like my foster mother very well. She’s a really nice person. And I have been here a long time now. She likes me too. But I wish I had someone to really, really love me.

Some very nice people came to look at me one time. They petted me and took me for a walk! I was so sure. But they went away. They said I was too old. I wonder what that means. Does that mean I won’t ever get my own home?”

I guess in a way this is sad, but I think what it is really trying to tell us is fostering a dog is a good idea. I know what fostering is now and maybe you should think about it and call the Ark Animal Sanctuary at 463-4142 and see if there is a dog there for you! Check out our website at – there are some really cool dogs there.
