Driver arrested after vehicle pursuit

A Sturgis, Mich., man was arrested after a vehicle pursuit on November 27.

    According to the police report, an officer from the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department attempted to stop a vehicle that was allegedly going 132 mph south on SR 9. The vehicle failed to stop, at which time a pursuit was initiated. The suspect vehicle turned west on SR 120, traveling through the northwest portion of LaGrange County at high rates of speed. The vehicle then went back east toward SR 9 before turning north onto SR 9 and heading into Michigan. After the suspect vehicle entered Sturgis, Mich., the Sturgis Police Department joined in the pursuit.

    The suspect vehicle crashed at the intersection of Witt Lake Road and Sweet Lake Road in St. Joseph County, Mich. The driver, identified as Austin J. Bauder, 21, of Sturgis, Mich., was arrested by the Sturgis Police Department. He is facing numerous criminal charges in Michigan and Indiana.

    This case is still under investigation.
