Dekalb girls upend Lakeland

DeKalb used a 21-7 run in the final quarter to escape Lakeland with a 73-61 victory over the young and scrappy Lady Lakers last Friday night in varsity girls basketball action.

Behind freshmen Keirstin Roose (15 points) and Bailey Hartsough (14 points), Lakeland built a 54-52 lead through three quarters. But Leigha Brown fueled a Lady Baron comeback in the final frame which capped off a 53-point night for the University of Nebraska commit and sent the hosts down to defeat.

Brown canned 16 of her 28 field goal attempts and went 19-21 from the charity stripe. The senior also grabbed 24 rebounds and dished out four assists.

Addison Ruby netted 14 points for the 2-0 Lady Barons.

Makayla Mast added 10 points and Beka Stroop nine markers to the Lakeland scoring column. Tanner Metcalf put in three points and Beth Stroop one.
