Defender Board sets 2018 budget

Members of the LaGrange County Public Defender Board have established a budget for 2018. The budget must be approved by the LaGrange County Council later this summer/fall.

For 2018, public defenders will be offered contracts that include a 2 percent increase in pay.

Contracts will increase from $50,000 to $51,000 a year for full-time service providers and from $25,000 to 25,500 for part-time providers.

Both the Superior Court and Circuit Court will be allotted $12,500 for supplemental attorney fees and other expenses.

This board includes an attorney, John Schwartz III, a member of the county council, Charles Ashcraft, and a citizen member, Fritz Schlemmer.
