County council hears first budget requests

Members of the LaGrange County Council listened to the first three budget requests for 2018 at their Monday meeting.

Cheri Perkins appeared at the meeting with a large troop of supporters as she requested $46,000 in support from the county for 2018. County council had allotted $44,000 in 2017.

This is a very small portion of the COA budget. The vast majority of the budget is an INDOT grant which funds the LCAT portion of the COA program.

ARC Opportunities asked for $135,000 in 2018. This is a 5 percent increase from the $129,000 allotted to ARC in 2017.

Deb Seman, executive director of ARC, said the amount being asked from the county is about 6 percent of the overall budget.

Mary Kauffman, vice president of the LaGrange County 4-H Fair Association, asked council members to approve the 4-H budget request of $44,000. This amount will be used to support the 4-H program for 530 4-H members, she said.

The budget for the county fair is $272,000.
