Concord boys edges Prairie Heights

Concord made enough plays at the end of regulation and in overtime to hold off a pesky Prairie Heights squad, 64-60 Tuesday night in Brushy Prairie.

The Panthers, who won just two games a year ago, appeared to have won the game when Mike Perkins converted a nifty drive-and-dish from Garrett Culler into a hoop with 2.3 seconds left to give the hosts a 54-52 lead.

But the Minutemen executed a length-of-the-court pass to Drew McDougle, who was fouled after the catch while attempting a three-pointer just before the final buzzer. McDougle converted two of the three free throws to knot the count at 54-all and force overtime.

The teams traded free throws at the start of the extra frame. Grant Lucchese then put the Minutemen ahead, 57-56 on a charity toss with 1:38 left.

Gabriele Andreini stretched the Concord edge to 60-56 with 47.8 remaining when he drilled a clutch, three-pointer. Andreini would give the visitors a 62-57 lead on a layup with 15.6 ticks left.

Perkins converted a three-point play with 7.8 seconds on the clock to carve the Panther deficit to two. But two free throws by Lucchese with 4.4 on the clock sealed the Minuteman triumph.

Michael Johnson, a burly, 6-4 forward, led Concord in scoring with 17 points. McDougle, who canned a trio of triples in the first period, wound up with 12 markers. Andreini finished with 11 tallies.

Perkins totaled 17 points, six rebounds and three assists to pace the Panthers in all three categories. Cole Harms pitched in 11 points and five boards.
