Central Noble blanks Prairie Heights in sectional action

Central Noble blanked Prairie Heights, 1-0 in the semifinal round of the 2A baseball sectional at Westview Saturday morning.

Nico Urso’s two-out single in the bottom of the first drove in Mason Smith with what proved to be the game’s only run. Smith had reached on an error and took second base on a hit by Andrew Gingerich.

Prairie Heights loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh on a single by Layne Bachelor, a walk to Mason Lake and a single by Isiah Levitz. But Cougar pitcher Smith buckled down to strikeout Logan Nott, turn a grounder off the bat of Kolton Taylor into a force out of Bachelor at home and retire Blake Hoyer on a pop fly to second.

Zach Smith was the hard-luck losing pitcher. Smith scattered six hits, did not walk a batter and whiffed two.

Eastside defeated Bremen, 2-0 in the second semifinal game Saturday. The Blazers went on to hammer Central Noble, 14-4 in Monday’s championship game.

Cade Willard lined three hits and drove in three runs to pace the Eastside attack in the finale. Conner Dove doubled home a run. Zach Orn, Dalton Rieke and Matt David all had RBI safeties.

Jackson White was the winning pitcher in the clincher.

Eastside began its title trek with an 8-3 victory over Westview last Thursday.

The Blazers jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first on a RBI single by Joe White and a three-run double off the bat of Rieke. The Warriors drew within one on a three-run homer by Nic Rensberger, but another four-run burst by Eastside in the sixth sealed the decision.

Jackson White fanned the final five Warriors he faced to finish with a total of 10 whiffs. Houston Haney took the loss for Westview.
