Banks announces Service Academy Day

Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) has announced that he will host a Service Academy Day on Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Ft. Wayne Air National Guard Base for local students who are interested in attending one of the five service academies.

“Each of the five service academies offers an extremely valuable education. Every student should consider taking advantage of it,” Banks stated. “Students that attend Academy Day will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from each institution and talk with my staff and me about the nomination process.”

Congressman Banks’ Academy Day will be held at the Air National Guard Base at 3005 Ferguson Road in Ft. Wayne. Along with Congressman Banks and his staff, representatives from the following service academies will be present:

·         U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.

·         U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

·         U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.

·         U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

·         U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The representatives will speak about the academies and be available to answer students’ questions afterwards. Doors will open for registration at 10 a.m. and the event is scheduled to last until 12:30 p.m.

In order to gain entry to the base on Academy Day, students and their guests must RSVP by Tuesday, Sept. 19, to Tinisha Weigelt at RepBanksAcademies@ with their names, driver’s license numbers (or Social Security numbers if they have no license), driver’s license state of issue, and date of birth.
